The HyperDrive4 is a Solid State disk made not from Flash RAM but from DDR.
DDR is hundreds of times faster than Flash RAM. Flash drives are considerably slower than WD Raptors! The latest Samsung 16GB and 32GB laptop
flash drives have a read access time of 190 microseconds which is 40x faster than a Raptor and this of course is the figure that journalists and resellers quote.
But they have a write access time of 41.6 milliseconds, which is 5x slower than a Raptor, and that is the figure that techies discover.
The HyperDrive4
has a read access time of 1100 nanoseconds and a write access time of 250 nanoseconds (as measured by Data Transit's Bus Doctor).
So putting this in its unspoken perspective, the HyperDrive4 is 184,000x faster
than the latest Samsung NAND flash laptop drives in write access time.
The latest 10,000 rpm SATA hard disks have read and write access times of 8 milliseconds (seek time + spindle latency).
And the latest 15,000 rpm SAS hard disks manage a very creditable 5.5ms access time (read and write).
Average spindle latency is 3 ms for a 10,000 rpm drive and 2ms for a 15,000 rpm drive.
The HyperDrive4
has a uniform Sustained Transfer Rate of 126 MB per second (as measured by HDTach), whereas the WD740ADFD Raptor has an average STR of 77 MB per second,
and the 15,000 rpm Seagate-Maxtor Atlas manages 98 MB per second STR.
It serves and receives 100% random 1KB files at the rate of 35,000 per second, 125x faster (as measured by Intel Corporation's IOmeter Benchmark)
than a Western Digital WD740ADFD Raptor (275 IOPS, 100% Random 50% Read 50% write IOMeter) and 110x faster than any U320 SCSI or SAS drive (325 IOPS).
This is 700x faster than the latest Samsung laptop flash drives (48 IOPS, 100% Random 50% Read 50% write IOMeter).
The HyperDrive4 is Bootable.
It connects just like a Hard Disk or a CDROM.
CDROM drive form factor. It fits into a standard 5.25" CD bay.
